How To Miss All The Fun On Your Walt Disney World Vacation

1. Sleep In. The best way to avoid lines and the (sometimes) oppressive Florida heat is to arrive at the park at least 30 minutes before the park opens. You can get so much done in the first few hours that the parks are open.

2. Or Go To Bed Early. I know. After waking up early to beat the crowds, going to bed early sounds great. But you’re on vacation. Sleeping is for lazy weekends at home. But if you must (and I admit, I must) get your sleep, be sure to plan for a few late nights. Riding Splash Mountain at night? Magical. Fantasmic show at Hollywood Studios? Spectacular. Strolling the countries around World Showcase at EPCOT after dark, sipping a cool beverage waiting for Illuminations to start? Something I never miss.

3. Forget Your Dollar Store Rain Ponchos. An inopportune rain shower in Florida is inevitable. Preparation is key. Oh sure, you could buy the Mickey Mouse ponchos at about $9 a pop. But I can think of better things to spend your money on, (i.e. Mickey ears, Mickey bar, Mickey T). Toss a few cheapo Dollar Store ponchos in your backpack and you’re good to go.

4. Bring Brand New Shoes. A trusty pair of sneakers are your best bet. I’ve seen women in heels. Men in spanking brand new sneakers. And then, the next day, they’re the ones hobbling around while the kids race ahead. Trust me on this one. Now is not the time to make a fashion statement.

5. Eat The Same Ol’ Burgers And Fries That You Do At Home. There are some amazing treats and meals at every park that are not to be missed. Dole Whips. Zebra Domes. Authentic Moroccan, German, French food at EPCOT. Your tummy will thank you.

Tangierine Café is one of our favorite Counter Service restaurants in EPCOT. A little taste of Morocco right here in Central Florida!

6. Race From Attraction To Attraction. Trying to do too much will surely suck the wind from your wings. Slow down. The fun is in the details. Hidden Mickeys. The amazing queues of Expedition Everest, Tower of Terror and Haunted Mansion. DiVine at Animal Kingdom. The British Invasion (Beatles Tribute Band.) Just to name a few.

7.  Fly By The Seat Of Your Pants The Entire Trip. I love spontaneity. But at Disney World, I have to plan spontaneity. First, we rough out a plan of attack. This way, we are sure to hit the must-dos on our list. Then, we have an afternoon or a day with absolutely no plans at all. A little bit of schedule and a little bit of flexibility makes for a well-balanced vacation.

8. Pass Up A Photo Opportunity. Part of the fun of any vacation are the memories you share. And what better way to preserve them than with a quick pic in front of the castle, or hat or Spaceship Earth or….well, you get the picture. It’s easy. It’s quick. And it’s free. PhotoPass photographers will take your picture either saved on your PhotoPass card or with your very own camera or phone.
